This hard core sci fi novel is a heavy and challenging that demands constant attention to stay with it. The diversions into ubiquitous computing make it inaccessible rather than interesting.

Granta 101 Granta 101, is the newly relaunched magazine-cum-book with a new editor in Jason Cowley.. It plans to be 'more internationalist', with more photography and more reportage. Robert Macfarlane, report of Beijing takes you right inside the city. Xan Rice, tells a painful story of a son and father murdered in Africa. The essay by Andrew Hussey describing the banlieues, the communities around Paris's périphérique, is its most enduring piece. More eerie is Tim Lott's article on the murder of Lott's literary agent.
